The Best Advice Mom Ever Gave Us

Inspired by Mother’s Day weekend, we began asking our girlfriends what is the best advice your mom ever gave you? Because moms know stuff. Not just how to get whites white or how to boil an egg, but the big important stuff. The stuff that guides the big decisions we make and the stuff that we pass on to our children. We may have rolled our eyes when they said it, but at the end of the day, we knew they were always right. Once in a while, even as grown moms ourselves, we need to be reminded about the important stuff. Here are a few of our faves:

Everything happens for a reason.

Put on your big girl panties and get it done.

When you marry the man (or woman), you marry the family.

Pretty is as pretty does.

Pick your battles.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!

Do first things first.

Don’t put the cart before the horse.

If you aren’t doing your husband someone else is.

Treat people the way you want to be treated.

Don’t marry a man (or woman) expecting to change them.

This, too, shall pass.

You’ll understand when you have your own kids.

Gas, grass or ass, no one rides for free.

Stop, take a deep breath and ask yourself if this will matter in 5 years.

Be fearless and go for it.

Put down the book and listen to your instincts.

Stash a little money away each month.

All flowers bloom at their own time.

If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.

Never chase a boy or a bus. There will always be another.

Life isn’t fair.
